The aim of the project "Transport development and environment" (VEU) is to close this gap. The project brings together the competences of natural scientists, engineers and social scientists from several DLR research institutes and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. The initiative is coordinated at the Institute of Transport Research. They develop instruments to describe scenarios and trends in ground and air transportation until 2030 and to identify and evaluate environmental and social impacts. In this video we are going to discover how cells take in useful substances and remove waste using three methods of transportation: diffusion, osmosis and then in the second part we will look at active transport. The exchange of materials occurs between cells and their environment, across the cell membrane. To make this exchange as efficient as possible, some organisms have evolved specialised exchange surfaces like the alveoli in the lungs, or root hairs in plants or the nephrons in kidneys. Depending upon what is being exchanged and which direction along the concentration gradient things are travelling will determine whether diffusion, osmosis or active transport will be used. Diffusion is the process in which particles spread out from each other. They move from high concentration t...
Victorian Auditor-General's report on Managing the Environmental Impacts of Transport, tabled on 20 August 2014. The audit examined whether institutional arrangements support effective strategic planning and cross-government coordination for managing the environmental impacts of transport, and whether key strategies and initiatives for managing the environmental impacts of transport have been effective. http://www.audit.vic.gov.au/reports_and_publications/latest_reports/2014-15/20140820-environment-transport.aspx

Documentary from Sunway College, Foundation in Arts, Group 5 students. By Bryan, Chai, Harishni and Leo. We are keen to promote the usage of public transport, as well as save the environment by reducing the usage of public vehicle that will emit toxic gases to the atmosphere. Which will then cause several pollution. It is one of the effective way to reduce the releasing of toxic gases into the atmosphere by using public transport. So, do use public transport to travel, reduce usage of public vehicle and contribute to the environment!
Transport in Greater Manchester is evolving: www.tfgm.com/2040 This is an exciting time for Greater Manchester and for us at TfGM. Our city-region is growing and evolving and we need a transport system which enables business to thrive, creates opportunities and makes travel easier for all. That’s why we have developed the Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2040 – a long-term plan for the future of transport in our city-region, and before we finalise our plans, we want to hear what you think. In this short video, Helen Smith, Head of Logistics and Environment at TfGM, discusses long-term sustainable economic growth and access to opportunity for all, protecting our environment, reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Our ambition is to ensure that sustainable modes of pub...

European Environment Agency Transport, including international aviation and maritime transport, accounts for around a quarter of total EU greenhouse gas emissions. Based on analysis of long-term trends, a new European Environment Agency report calls for a clear vision defining Europe's transport system by 2050 and consistent policies to achieve it.

This research is all about the introduction and airworthiness of cruiser-feeder operations for civil aircraft. Cruiser-feeder operations are investigated as a promising pioneering idea for the air transport of the future. The movie shows an artist impression. The soundness of the concept of cruiser-feeder operations for civil aircraft is easy to understand, taking air-to-air refuelling operations as an example. For air-to-air refuelling, a comprehensive estimate of fuel burn reduction potential and a CO2 emission reduction is 31% for a typical 6000 nautical miles flight with a payload of 250 passengers. This reduction potential is known to be large by any standard. The top level objective of the RECREATE project is to demonstrate on a preliminary design level that cruiser-feeder operat...
